Low Tech to High Tech – Returning to the world of mobile

I spent the last couple of days filling in for my dad while he recovers from surgery. My parents own a couple of stores in Colorado and though it would have been helpful to manage the front-end, my talents were better utilized elsewhere, like fixing up their homes and properties. So while I was re-wiring electrical (small stuff mind you) and moving a whole lot of earth, a lot of tech news had occurred while I was away. Like, oh I don’t know, the preview of the iPhone 3.0! So sadly I was not there when all the tech sites went live with coverage, but at least there were great summaries:
- Cut and Paste across all apps
- Push notification
- In-app purchasing
- MMS
- Voice memos
- Peer to Peer networks (very cool)
- Landscape keyboard on almost everything
- Spotlight Searching
All this and maybe more this summer for all iPhone users.
So where does this put Apple in our Texas Hold’em game? Remember now we have six players: Blackberry, WinMo, Symbian, iPhone, Android, and Palm. On the flop Blackberry raised with the Storm, Android checks with the Cupcake update. On the turn WinMo checks with 6.5 update, Symbian folds with plans for the next round, it looks like iPhone checks with Palm going ALL IN. I know all the rules are not followed here but you get the idea.
Now that we have five players, Giz did a great job breaking down what each will bring to the table:
This is going to be a GREAT year for mobile tech and one killer game of poker. Any bets on who will be the winner? Should we really care?
