This morning, my son and daughter were both excited.  It will be a half day at school, which mean they will have a bit of free time to play before evening duties kick in.  The other thing that made my son jump for joy was the fact that he would be out of school in time for the official announcement on Apple’s latest product, the strangely named iPad.  I had to break my son’s spirit a bit as I will not be home to pick him up at the time of the announcement, however he will get a different bedtime story tonight. A story filled with confusion and lost opportunities. continue reading…

Today I ran, seriously, ran from person to person at work as I scrambled to make printers, websites, digital repositories all sing in techno harmony (interestingly enough, I ran at lunch to help burn off excess energy, go figure).  As I moved from person to person, I took notes, jot down ideas and dictated conversations on my trusted graphing paper notebook.  The sad thing is, the damn thing is falling apart.  Pages are pulled and folded, order is only known by me.  The notebook would represent chaos to anyone else, but it is my safe haven for my thoughts, work and doodles when I am stuck.  I trusted my security blanket until today. Today I ached for a slate.

gallerySince my iPhone is always with me for obvious reasons, it is time to use it like I would my DSLRs.  I’ve started a gallery on my website to show off some of the photos I take with my iPhone.  It should be easier for me to maintain.  Take a look when you get a chance.

While driving into work this morning, Pandora for the iphone had buffering issues.  Between street lights, I took a look at my iphone and noticed the ‘3G’ indicator was not on, nor was I on the edge network.  All my phone had was cellular connection to AT&T.  The first thing that popped in my head was, “Great, what the hell am I suppose to do with this damn thing.” Oh wait, I can still make and receive calls… Then it struck me, losing data access on my phone felt the same as losing broadband access at my home.  My phone became just as useless as my PC.  Both can still function without access to the web but what’s the point?  Is a cell phone that can only makes calls now considered a useless device?  Or more interestingly, is expectation from a smart phone equivalent to that of a desktop computer?  If you get pissed when your cellular data network fails, then the answer to both is yes.

Pikes Peak Hill Climb is an annual tradition for rally junkies in Colorado Springs. I lived there for a good 20 years and I can honestly say I never went to one but always track the results on local sports update.  It is an insane race up a mountain with hairpin switch-backs on loose gravel roads.  It is a real challenge for drivers, can you imagine what it must be like for a car that does not have one?

Stanford’s Robotics team will do just that.  They will enter their Audi TTS in next year’s race.  If the car makes it up to the top without flying off the road, send it my way.  I could use a nap on my hour long commutes.
