Silence fills the dojang.  Students line up in front of Master Chris.

Cha-ryut. Kukki ae Dae-ha-yo. Kyung-net,” calls out the class senior (today it is my son).  Everyone comes to attention and bow to the flags of Korea and the US.

Cha-ryut. Sabum-Nim kae.  Kyung-net,” as everyone bows to the master.

As  the students sit taking in deep breaths, I look around at parents that are either watching their child with pride or with heads down banging away on some device, just like me.  Those with their heads down, have young children keeping themselves entertained.  What do you think was keeping the attention of the younger siblings? Books? Coloring? No, the children were texting or watching Youtube on either their own iPhone or their parents.  Some as young as three are already connected to web media. What does that say about us?

wallThere is a lot of noise out there from the fallout of Google’s rejected iPhone apps, Latitude and Voice, for the app store.  I absolutely agree with Gizmodo that Apple’s inconsistent method of app approval process is by far the greatest injustice that can be handed down to both developer and consumer. How long can Apple continue this confusing process?  Apple can smartly say as long as they like, the public has spoken through the sale numbers of their latest iPhone.  Developers are going to support where the consumers are but how long can that stay true for Apple?  Like the biblical Walls of Jericho, the death march has started and the voice of discontent reverberates.  So much so that the FCC is now involved.  This is why closed communities fail. continue reading…

My home state of Texas is embroiled in  a passionate debate on should creationism be part of the science curriculum in public schools and stand side by side as an alternative to the theory of evolution.  Moral and political objections aside, given that they are thoroughly played out in the public forum already, I tend to look at this argument from another point of view.  Given the desire to treat creationism as a scientific theory, by principle of the scientific method, we will allow the children to challenge the existence of God.  Can the faith-based portion of our society accept such consequences? continue reading…
