I love my Sony products.  I love the fact that my Sony Reader PRS-500 is still going strong.  I love streaming Netflix on my PS3.  I love watching my Blu-ray movies on my XBR-52.  I love messing around with my PSP when I am bored (yeah, the PSP does not see much action these days).  I love how Sony use to take care of me.  But now… With firmware 3.21 on the PS3 coming out this week, I will lose my Linux partition.  Geohot could not state it any better, “The PlayStation 3 is the only product I know that loses features throughout it’s life cycle.”  Wow, what a crazy way to kick your early adopters in the teeth.

Finally, something to get excited about for my PS3 and it was not Sony who did the work.

Remember when I told you I would be first in line if Netflix made a disc for PS3?  Well lied, I was probably not the first but none the less, I am eagerly waiting for my disc in the mail.  Thank you Netflix, the PS3 is your blu-ray slave, and soon it will be able to stream as well.  Playon has one less thing to push to my PS3.

It seems the PS3 may not be up to snuff with all the latest codecs as I thought. EngadgetHD is reporting that though PS3 can internally decode Dolby TrueHD it does not currently support DTS HD or allow sending the bits to be decoded by say an HDMI 1.3-compliant receiver. No matter, my 3806 only accepts PCM multi-channel through HDMI now. It will be some time before I can get the 3808 CI at which this will become an issue. Maybe Sony will release a patch that will fix this.
