Mobile Active posted a short on why data collection is so important which led me to FrontlineSMS, a wonderful SMS initiative to quickly form communication groups to gather basic data without paper. FrontlineSMS is so simple in design yet so empowering, you begin to wonder if there are other projects out there similar to this. Thankfully Kiwanja.net has created a database of all mobile initiatives around the world that is searchable. It is nice to find solutions every once in awhile that is based on the needs of the many rather than the potential wealth of the few.
